Finally, of note, I will mention that I would not consider shooting this gun without safety glasses. I have not worked out where it comes from yet, but there is a definite blast of air to the face after each shot. Perhaps this is common with all AR's?

I'll not beat about the bush, are you cack-handed? :? :lol: As shooting the original version of this gun which i, and i think you have, is an unpleasant experience. The ejection port is massive as it's cut for a .223 cartridge with a cocking handle attached and the blast and debris that comes out can be a little scary. I've never been a fan of shooting weak-shouldered but this thing makes it awful! Fitting a brass catcher helps immensely but it makes proving clear a bit of a faff!

I can't say I've ever encountered that with any of the three AR's that I have.

I am pleased for you that the rifle seams to be working as it should and hope enjoy it now.
For any one with problems still, I hope you get them sorted quickly one way or another.
I was aware of the issues when I got mine but it was sitting on the shelf at a local RFD so I bought it (did not order it). I guessd it would be a easy fix for me to sort out myself and was right. This should not be the case with any product and is no excuse, but if SGC now know the issues and sort them all well and good.

Now if they make one in 10mm I would be very interested.

On cleaning the gun tonight I noticed that the thread protector was lose on the threads, it had been before I started shooting this afternoon and had hand tightened it then.

Not only was the crown covered in carbon but also the threads of the protector, so I can be sure the thing had worked lose during shooting.

I had not noticed before that the rifling stops short of the crown, with the last section being over sized.
On replacing the thread protector, I could see that there is a definite gap between the end of the barrel and the thread protector, even though on the outside all appears to match up.

I can not help thinking that all this between the end of the rifling and the face of the muzzle protector can not be helping with accuracy. Next time I shoot it I ill take the thread protector off and see what difference it makes,

That is a sure fire way of burning carbon onto the crown which is a pain to remove, I have a muzzle brake on my 7mm and it does not snug down to the crown so I never use it these days.

I should really do something about it...

Oh - by the way, I am right handed, not one of those sinister types. I had not thought about shooting it week handed yet, but will have to get to grips with it as it is all part of Timed and Precision & 1500 course of fire.

I pulled all the damaged rounds tonight, I have to laugh at the tiny amount of powder in the cases, looking forward to re loading some of my own,

not the same rifle I know, but the thread protector on my Steyr AUG also works loose after a few shots, my plan is to put an O ring on the barrel first for it to tighten against, this should supply enough tension to hold it in place.

DM, that "p**f of air", is it just air, or does it have little bits in it? As the design is really just a simple blowback, it's the weight of the bolt and the spring that keeps the action closed until safe to cycle. If there's little debris in the "p**f of air", it might be that the action is opening just a tiny bit too early because of a dodgy spring. You can get extra power buffer springs for a few quid from Brownells.
