You cannot have legal title to something if you have paid a deposit but not paid the balance . And that is the Gospel according to the Official Receiver .

So Mr A lives in Glasgow , he lists his almost new Blaser Rifle on a well known website for £599.00 .

Mr B lives in Truro and wants the rifle , he even has a slot for it on his FAC .

Mr B contacts Mr A and sends him a deposit by bank transfer for £594.00 .

Mr A takes the rifle to his local RFD , Mr C .

Mr C contacts the dealer in Truro Mr D , exchanges copies of their RFD and ships the rifle out by the approved carriers with an invoice for £5.00 .

Mr D receives the rifle , contacts Mr B , and sells the rifle to Mr B for £5.00 plus handling charage plus VAT .

No laws have been broken or even slightly bent . Everyone is happy .

But does Mr B send his FAC to Mr A for entering the rifle onto his certificate in this scenario?

No he does not , there is no requirement .

He has bought the rifle from the dealer in Truro , Mr D .

Well yes it is ..........(almost)

The important thing is that a sales invoice must be generated by the Glasgow dealer and the Truro dealer .
The invoice sale price is unimportant and in reality does not even need to be paid .

It could cause a bit of head scratching by HMRC , but if the dealers do make the payment to each other there is an audit trail that will keep HMRC happy (ish)

Do remember there may be VAT added along the way if dealers and cash are involved, even though for second hand sales where profit is taxed so may not apply there are trifling matters like shipping through Royal Mail (Yes you can ship section 1 and section 2 firearms through RM) You cannot claim VAT back on purchase of stamps however you have to charge the customer VAT on the transaction or foot the cost yourself.

I see a business opportunity I just need a Registered firearms dealers certificate and a white van I could spend the rest of my days driving up and down the Country delivering guns. May be not.
