A few quick questions from a Harris bipod virgin if I may...

1) For bench rest target shooting, which is better notched or smooth bipod legs?
2) On what axis do these bipods swivel? Is it so the rifle can rock left and right on uneven ground or so you can swing from one target to another? I assume the former...
3) Would you advise me to buy the swivel version?
4) What is the ideal leg length?
5) Is there a specific picatinny rail adapter that everyone uses?

Craig,

I assume you mean shooting off a bench as opposed to the Bench Rest shooting discipline? (Slight difference)

The Harris swivel bipod gives cant control so it will move a few degrees left and right of vertical sideways, it makes a big difference on uneven surfaces.
I prefer notched legs.
For me 6"-9" however I prefer to shoot with a low position.
ARMS make a mount for the Harris to fit to a picatinny rail however it is not cheap.

Don't know the quality - but I have bought from them before and it's been OK. This one looks similar to one (of the two) that I have.

Thanks for the info. I was talking to a fella in the local gun shop yesterday and he recommended straight legs. Clearly it's personal preference, but why do you prefer the notched legs?

Is this the adapter you mean? Looks nice.

A harris bipod will fit onto that type of mount.
