I'd say it was just a phishing email... I've had exactly that email a couple of times, and I didn't have a GT account..

Yes, Daryll: but it had the password from my GT account referenced. That's beyond coincidence.

The scum are probably all using the same phishing software........

Clearly it's a new spin on an old phishing fly. Previously most people would have seen this going the rounds and dismissed it for the hoax it is. However, armed with an actual password from another known to be hacked account, those susceptible to this sort of phishing trawl will wonder what else they have on them. Where their caper falls down is requesting Bitcoin. Those gullible enough to fall for these risible attempts will probably be a bit flummoxed in how to go about setting it up. And likely as not have the funds either.

It's easy to find out for sure. Just put your email in https://haveibeenpwned.com/ and they will tell you where it's been leaked.

I'm sure most aware now but there's also a lovely bunch of people on an anti-hunting website spreading this openly, encouraging their members to download it AND upload the data into Google Earth so there's now a dot with all your info linked to your address. Brilliant(!) I've downloaded it and put it into Google Earth (a 5 minute simple job) and can confirm that it does work.

Not heard of that...which anti-hunting website is it?

I did download the file, found my details and Bnz's. Didn't save the file or upload to Google Earth but it does work.

It doesn't include my address, just postcode and a generic lat/long which is streets away so someone else might get the grief ...

That's highly irresponsible of them! I've forwarded the link on to my local force. Quite apart from the moronic spackers that might take a violent pop at firearm owners, it's an invitation to treat for the criminal classes.
