We haven't decided what sort yet: they could well be the sort to manacle a ooman with afore chucking rotten cabbages...

I'd vote for an RPA action to base it on... Its british, support on the forum, and well respected in the target field. and did I mention its British?
Oh, and I do believe they have a repeatable version...

Valkyrie will not supply you with an action. They only use them on their own builds to ensure quality which is fair enough. How about the GBR action? British and a Rem clone to ensure compatibility with stocks, bottom metal etc. May well still require tools to change barrels but at the end of the day, are you likely or need to do this in the field?
You can change barrels back at the Sett with a few tools?

Changing calibres - by changing barrels - is something that we would like to be easily accomplished though it is not something we feel likely to do at the range. A system that allows barrels to be changed with the minimum of tools and with no shift in zero is desirable.
From what we have read so far, it seems that the Savage action is currently out in front with the Barnard and Surgeon following on close behind. The INCH action seems the best option for quick change barrels but there is conflicting information about its availability / utility as a repeating mechanism.
