I've been told a visit is likely. I've no reason to doubt it's a possibility but have people found that to be the case? Why does a Sect 1 shotgun warrant a 'special visit' over, say, asking for another rifle?

Only person I've ever heard that happen to was in Lancaster.

Fear of the unknown, stupidity and lack of knowledge about the capabilities of a shotgun compared to a .308 rifle say....
The 12g thermonuclear, mega death ray, biological, football crowd clearing, wall destroying shotgun that gives you the ability to bring down the Mir Space station with a single shot scares them.
Other than that there's no seriously valid reason..IMO of course.

The FLO covering Lancaster is pretty knowledgable and an alright guy if it is who I am thinking of. I can only assume there was a series of circumstances that made them want to have a chat first.

My bad, predictive text, I should have written Lancashire.
You assume correctly, a series of circumstances were involved. Enough said about that though.

I simply stated "PSG" when asked and got it without much further ado.... I now regret not asking for x2 slots!

I want to partake in psg events, club days etc. Will my small bore club membership (they have psg days booked by individuals not through the club) warrant an okay? I'm struggling to find a club I can join without already holding the relevant certs. I don't mind joining 4i, but I don't want to waste money either?

If you want to shoot PSG then you'll need somewhere to shoot it - so that's either by invite to other clubs that shoot it (pay a range fee on the day) or via UKPSA or F4i matches (or perhaps Target shotgun via NRA?)
So - unless your club hosts it's own PSG matches (or allows others to do so at your range) then one way or another you'll find you're paying to shoot PSG wherever you go - be it UKPSA or F4i Membership.
I'm not clear on what your current clubs situation is - is it that individuals who are members shoot PSG elsewhere - or that none club members use your clubs range for PSG?

Why do so many insist you "compete"?
"Oh you'll love it".
Erm, maybe. Will you be paying for the ammo? I'd prefer to just blast away at my own pace (and cost) thanks.

Nothing wrong with that

Personally I find it gets quite boring, quite fast though. You also have to keep in mind keeping your FLD happy you have a 'good reason' to own the gun and we all know how 'funny' some can be when it comes to grey guns like S1 shotguns, LBP's etc
