Right common then - back on track...It would really narrow it down, if 1...you could say what you are most likely/most often going to use the rifle for; short range, long range, accuracy, plinking?...an 'all-purpose' rifle isn't worth the level of consideration....and 2...are you prepared to reload or not?

Right back at Square One, squirrel...

and no, we'd prefer not to reload.

Then you can rule out a lot of calibers if you want readily available ammo...

My personal view, is that .303 is for classics, .308 is for TR and 'all-purpose'.....If you're going to put a scope and pod on it, then I'd go for 6.5 x 55...as you already have another, so helps with bulk ammo purchases...and is an excellent caliber that's good at all ranges...

Right, we're finally back on track....

party2

We're thinking of 6.5x55 Swedish in an AICS-X stock to begin with, now we're looking for the best action for it, then the ideal barrel...

If you are only going to shoot Milsurp ammunition you might as well get a milsurp barrel and action. I think that you will end up spending a lot of money for no practical gain. Just buy a 6.5 x55 sporter and be done with it.

Don't those need some form of stock to be legal ? If not, are they classed as a long barrelled pistol or a short rifle?

They are just over 24 inches in length - so take your pick: rifle or LBP?

So what would we ask our friendly FLO for ? Can we just pop it on an empty 6.5 x 55 slot on our FAC, or do we need to call it a LBP and ask specifically for that ?
