The bolt rotates and locks, and in theory can't be fired unless it's locked. So it shouldn't be a problem to run without a buffer and buffer spring, in theory at least. I will feed from magazines, hand feed is something benchrest guys do. :D

You could try running without a buffer/buffer spring..but why? It would just make use much harder.

To the OP.
With reference to your original question, extraction on my straight pull is slick.
It's a balancing act to get the chamber just right so that it passes proof while still rejecting a 'no go' gauge.
I'm running a pre-production Lantac upper (of the new model) at the moment. Depending where you are you're more than welcome to try it out
