Pistols: would you give up home storage to get them back?

As a matter of interest - does anyone know the figures for s7 pistol shooters who keep their pistols at the range?

OK, part of me says if I really cared about pistol shooting I would do anything to get it back, but there are other factors.

Will this make any difference to criminal use of handguns?

No

Will it stop the determined screwball from running amok?

No

Will it massively inconvenience the owner?

Possibly

Will they be stored under one secure roof with an armed security guard on site?

Unlikley....massive cost implications to boot

Would it then put loads of desirable firearms in one easilly raidable location?

Course it would...this is why we split down components etc at home and dont store everything together.

Could we not store them at the local nick?

I work in a nick...have you ever tried finding a copper when you actually need one??

Also, like many, I like to tinker, adjust, check, clean, do all the good stuff we enthusiasts want to do.

I have just tried cleaning an F/TR rifle in a hotel room....I was surprised at how much crap I had to take with me that was usually just to hand at home.

It may be that after having served a reasonable amount of time as a probie they will be allowed back.

When I lived in London I used to belong to a club who had an armoury in the bowels of Somerset House. I use to love walking through the corridors and open plan offices past all the bemused Civil Servants with a golf bag stuffed with shotguns and rifles!

Club storage wouldn't work but that not what we're campaigning for is it.

I would love to be able to shoot pistols, I never got the chance and trips abroad are currently out of my budget

Im not sure I fully understand it all but my basic opinion of it is that we should be able to own and use pistols as we currently do with S1 firearms

surely petitioning for their return but saying that they would be stored at clubs etc is almost admitting or saying, hey we want these back and they are dangerous so how about we keep them at the clubs etc

what happens if the wheels slowly turn and "somehow" they allow the return of pistols but they have to be stored at club armouries, first of all many clubs couldn't accommodate it, membership fees go through the roof.

but how small a step is it to the law being changed that all firearms are stored at those premises, no home storage at all

maybe I have misunderstood, but to me this petition is almost saying that they are more dangerous than our S1 firearms by allowing the storage clause??

sometimes people just get carried away and sign these petitions, it must be good as I read it on the internet LOL

currently theres one about bringing road tax disc price for bikes into line with cars, ie emissions based, if they do that bike tax will more than quadruple LOL IDIOTS LOL

It's actually not - I misunderstood the law.

There are easier ways it could have been done, legally speaking, but what the petition says does work in terms of getting .22 pistols back.

The campaign ethos is in fact to have .22 pistols recognized within the current Section 1 approach, i.e without additional restrictions. As demonstrated by a great quote from a supporter of the campaign now highlighted on the website; firearmsuk.org/unity

The question that the politicians will be asking themselves before any repeal or amendment is what is in it for them politically. They don't have the courage to admit when they are wrong nor the political will to deal with a subject that will undoubtedly attract negative press from the traditional anti's and other sympathy groups.
