Needless to say I have had a few encounters with the RCO at the time because frankly the army drilled that into me so it is hard to learn otherwise.
When I ran a range, if there was a problem, then any firer can shout Stop, Stop, Stop, as well as me (as the RCO) or any other firing point safety supervisor,,,FOR ME the drill would be/is Stop firing, apply safety catch and lay the weapon down,, you the firer would not move, unless told too, you stay behind your weapon thus still having control over it,,what you dont need is people standing up and wandering around on the firing point, scratching their ar$e$ and generally having a chit chat,,,,smoking on or near the firing point or near ammunition points is also an absolute NO NO,,ovenpaa wrote:Old club used to say step away from the rifle on the grounds that a rifle is just an inert object until someone touches it, but then some of RCO's said no, at stop stop stop you take your finger off the trigger and continue to hold the rifle keeping it pointing down range until cleared by the RCO. The problem as I see it was differing instructions from different RCO's so you never knew what was expected from day to day and they seemed to skip this part in the safety briefings.
I would be interested to hear the opinions of any RCO's on the forum and I am looking forward to next months course.
