Im sure I will be able to sort some thing out.

I'd genuinely be interested in finding out the percentage of clubs that do book onto MoD ranges around the country.

I would imagine every full bore club in the North East of England there is no were else to shoot full bore rifles in the North East. Except for DIGGLE.

I tend to agree. I can only think of Diggle that offers distances past 200 yards round my way. Most clubs I know of round this way shoot longer distance full bore on MoD ranges.

There's an existing 50/100m range near Long Town/Carlisle that's planning to open a 1 mile range, Gardners Guns

I visited Gardner's Guns a couple of weeks back and was very impressed with the new 100m & 50m shooting range.

All of which have covered, bench rest firing points, the set up was brilliant not only is there a hand onsite gun shop but also the firing points back on to a newly built club room with a lovely wood burning stove.

On speaking to the owner Marc Gardner, he told me about the new facility he is having built which will be a range with the ability to be able to shoot out to a mile.

In addition to the Mile long targets the new facility will boast a number of excellent facilities:-


1. Targets at 100m set intervals from 100m out to 1000m and 1000 yards (plus additional targets out to a mile)

2. Electronic target system allowing the shooter to watch there long range shots via an ipad at the bench (recording group size)

3. A huge selection of Gongs of various shapes and sizes.

4. Covered, weather proof firing points - with benchrest facilities - all heated.

5. Large Bothy heated both with kitchen and full access toilet facilities.

6. Full disabled access.

7. Only 25 mins from the M6.

8. Set to open June 2017

Carlisle probably not. I think I will just get my members through there range conducting course and concentrate on local MOd ranges for now. But thanks for the heads up any way.

Both my clubs make extensive use of MoD ranges. Despite our proximity to Bisley they offer a better range of targetry (including SARTS) and flexibility to fire over different distances.

We currently use Ash, Longmoor, Henley Park and Stoney Castle. In previous years we used Otmoor too.

The guy who delivers the training is actually local I just need to sort out a venue. Could be a bit of a challenge first day is in the classroom second day is supposed to be on a range. hmmm
