On 3rd dec I spoke to SGC about the 5.56/.223 lever release. I was told a limited run of 100 were being made, at £5022 inc VAT. All 100 were spoken for!

And I bet Bob wouldn't even round it down to £5,000 ! Now assuming this semi auto "workaround" isn't shut down by the grim faced fun Police, I would expect other companies (Like Caledonian are) to get on board and capture a slice of the market, hopefully bringing prices down to levels that the great unwashed (like me) can afford.

Certainly not for the faint hearted though, a very large up front investment is required and the risk that the rug could be pulled from under you by the Government.

You have to give serious credit to Bob for trailblazing the way in this area, even if he is a surly bugger!

A £3,000 premium for a little lever, sounds a good mark up doesn't it.

I think what your paying for is the development costs?

i wouldn't personally give bob the time of day (manners cost nothing!) but i'm sure he will sell a lot.

Yeah, I'm sure there will be some fairly substantial dev costs, probably more legal than the technical. But still you have to think how anyone could justify £5k for an AR with a "little lever". But I suppose the laws of supply and demand have been proven, a unicorn can command stupid money.

To be fair, it's not an AR, it looks like an AR, but all the major components are different! It is effectively a brand new design, but surely £5,000 is about the max you can charge and still sell them ?

Be a bummer to pay £5k and find its a piece of pooh and get no back up!
How many of the buyers will have bought them as an investment though with no intention of shooting them?
I too would not buy anything from SGC purely based on my one and only encounter with BOB at a Phoenix several years back.
However one of my club mates says he is great if you go and see him.
Fair play to him for developing this though and I would be interested but not at £5k and having to deal with him.

Is there any precedent for this? Surely if the government actually draft regulations (Firearms Act) regarding the design and construction of firearms and said Bob (or Alan Westlake or anyone else) reads the Act and complies with it, where's the problem?

Doesn't the Home Secretary retain the right to ban anything that they may think is particularly dangerous in their eyes.
