Just trap it as others have said and then stab the little f***. Tape a knife to a stick if you're not keen getting close.
Quiet and just as dead.

Hi Scotsgun.
I read your post with interest but stab where for a clean kill (if you can with a knife) would not want the animal to suffer.

If i have to trap one and kill quietly then i'll wear a set of full length welders mitts that stretch right up to the elbow, reach in and grab it either around the muzzle or behind the neck if possible.
Take a knife and plunge it in at the bottom of the neck, but over the top of the ribs - essentially the soft spot above where the ribs start. Turn the knife around a bit and withdraw. A large gush of blood will come out with the knife and the fox will die within seconds if you hold its rear above the wound. Essentially all the blood in its chest will flood out of the wound.
Once killed, burn the carcass or burry it where a dog can't get at it. Dogs will easily get the mange, fleas or worse from their carcasses.

Urban fox? Confirm it is dead and bury it. I doubt bunging it in a wheelie bin is a good option.

You could always take it to a vet for a lethal injection, personally I'd give it a lump of lead. Relocating any pest species is against the law as Spud said, it's the relocation of pests act and is therefore law.
