Calibre sure can affect your enjoyment.
Shooting my .223 SP AR means a 30 minute drive and engaging 4WD to get to the range.
Shooting my 9mm SP AR is a 10 minute drive to the indoor range, wearing trainers and no thought of the waterproofs.

Went to the USA shooting, USPSA pistol and PCC match, AR and AK at steel out to 300 yards, the highlight after the matches was a Ruger 22/45 with a Trijicon RMR pinging steel at 50 yards.

I tend to enjoy the bigger the calibre is, .22 mess around, .308 ok let's get serious.

We had a few shooters from Nunavut attend our Provincial Rifle Championship about 10 years ago. One of them was shooting a Thompson Contender single shot rifle in .458 Win Mag!........he definitely wasn't having a good time!
