As has been said it is the payment that is the issue not the checks, also the profession is not in agreement with the efficacy of some checks or whether they should do it at all. Also the profession has shown that a goodly number of their members are lacking in integrity so can their "opinions" be trusted. This isn't about ensuring the odd wrong uns are weeded out but about responsibility shifting by the certification departments not public safety.
The follow on from this is that all drivers should pay GPs for medical certification to have a drivers license as unfit drivers cause more fatalities than unfit FAC/SGC holders.

To add to this, unfit drivers can be forced to get a medical from their GP to retain their licence. And under those circumstances the GP is not allowed to refuse. It is quite easy to see a GP objecting as they believe cars are killing the planet or something. But they are told they can't. I have a feeling they are not allowed to charge for it either!dromia wrote:As has been said it is the payment that is the issue not the checks, also the profession is not in agreement with the efficacy of some checks or whether they should do it at all. GPs are allowed to charge for signing a Passport application - another way to try and extract money from us. I have for a long time (40 years) , by nature of my professional status, been a suitable signatory (although now almost anone will do) for passports and other official documents - have I ever considered making a charge? No, and I never will.
Interestingly, if a GP signs an FAC or SGC application - they cannot charge for it.

It's not just this, it is also ourselves, the shooters, who allow them to get away with making up the rules as they go along. Letting them get away with small things just because we don't want to rock the boat is coming back to bite us.dromia wrote:they are just exploiting the divisiveness inherent in shooting as is exasperated by our failed vested interest only "national" organisations
When they make up a rule in the past I've challenged them and politely showed them what the law and the guidance actually says and they've backed down.
