used to be out, then I increased my ammo holding, and the bolts got evicted back into their respective rifles due to lack of space, I'm not sure that the integral ammo box would put up much of a fight to anyone able to open the main door to be honest.

Best practice is out and stored elsewhere secured, also suggest if left for any length of time you "ease the spring" of the firing pin as this can lead to spring compression and will require replacing. Also best to travel with bolt out as have been stopped by polive during "routine" checks and they like it this way, dont give them any opportunity to revoke your FAC. Rgs Phil25

I tried to do that with my Steyr SSG04 bolt and it ended up in bits that neither i or 3 RFD's could piece back together. It ended up having to go back to the Steyr factory and cost me £60 (3yrs ago) to fix - never again! :-P

All the bolts are left in my rifles. Never been told otherwise. The firearms office who came for an inspection didn't mention it at all. But he was more interesting in the fact that a 24 year old owned nothing but WWI rifles and muskets that where older then both of us put together

I leave the bolt in my 4(T) however the magazine is out at the moment. The S&L usually has the bolt in as the cheek piece was licked in position however I have just fitted a jacking tower and thumb stops so it is easily removed/replaced so the bolt is out for a change. The others have the bolts removed and springs backed off.

I always take mine out and store them in the lockable ammo safe on my cabinet. Having seen oodles of people turn up to range days minus bolts I always fit mine back into my rifles the night before I go shooting!

Taking my 223 bolt for my 308 rifle is a laff!

How many people bag everything up the night before and leave it on the bedroom floor ready for a very early start?

Or more to the point how many people are prepared to admit doing this?
