Re; the brass - I've found my old net style brass catcher and I'm going to try that initially. Attaching it to the gun in a manner that covered the ejection port and doesn't interfere with the operation of the gun or get in the way of the sight is, um, 'interesting'

Its not vague at all , some people can achieve splits of 0.10 with a semi-auto, other people are closer to 0.20, as you have to pull the trigger twice on the MARS just double your split time to get your answer. That said, having to pull the trigger twice for a single shot really does take it out of your trigger finger and expect speed to drop off much quicker as the day/competition wears on.

I know that there is a difference in the trigger pull to close the bolt verses firing the round..... but do you find yourself getting out of sync and expecting it to fire when it only closes the bolt or (worse still) fire when you only expected the bolt to close?

This is one of the reasons why I prefer the SGC lever-release, the trigger only has one operation to perform. (Oh and the MARS rifle is so dammed ugly).

My replacement rifle has a completely different mechanism from the original one and the difference in trigger pulls is less noticeable, but as long as you aim the gun for every trigger pull its not an issue, even if the gun wasn't 100% aimed when the trigger was pulled it would ALWAYS be pointed in a safe direction, i.e. down range. I've never had to aggressively run it in a competition for example so I'm not sure whether the ease of being able to know which trigger pull is coming next diminishes much under the pressure of a ticking clock.

My outdoor rifle club has finally managed to get some dates booked for the field firing ranges at Otterburn so once I get a load developed that it likes/works well i'll be cranking out some rounds to give it a proper run out up there where some of the restrictions that apply to normal MOD ranges, don't

100% agree with the looks of the VZ58, although it has been significantly improved with the all black version I now have. I personally prefer the trigger release to the lever release in terms of the mechanism but each to their own!

ladies nylon stocking, punch some holes in the top, cut 6in slits front and back, tie up with string through holes at bottom of gun. Might be worth a try.

Seen 2 types, 1 fits on side scope rail. 2 clips on rear sight.
Both about 25 euro.

Yep should have got it in 762x39 (I have shot 1" group at 100m most days 3 to 4" groups)
Using a TRS25 red dot mounted up front. Tula ammo costs me about £17.50 a 100
No messing about with reloads, just remember to bring a big tin opener !!

IMO a much easier solution and your rifle will not end-up looking like a Mc Macgyver on dope's jobby

You need a brass deflector on that to avoid killing the scope.

What can I say, I'm not a fan of 'rock and lock' or 'banana' magazines, plus milsurp is getting hard to come by round this way for sensible money and I already had an ACOG for it which has the BDC for .223/5.56

As already covered standard brass catchers don't work for the VZ58 owing to the comedy vertical/forward ejection, well, not if you actually want to be able to see your target

The brass deflector would be a good option, particularly in the long run, is there any chance you can get a better picture of it from your friend Mr Froggy? I just need to figure out a way to attach it to the ACOG mount securely enough that it doesn't just twang off after a couple of rounds, but in a manner that still permits quick attach/detach of the mount from the rifle, while not dinging the brass up too much
