What ever floats your boat. They look dated to me. Not some thing I would rush out and buy. But as I said the 7.62x39 is a fun cartridge and real easy to reload. The .223 does nothing for me either.

Firearms technology is technically stuck in a 1950s/60's rut. Since we've not moved onto caseless ammo yet.... we're all effectively using dated stuff then.

Not sure I agree with that I spent a hour of my range time shooting a Lantac not a ordinary Lantac but one that's been custom built with lots of interesting goodies. Its the dogs danglis to shoot.

And for afters

I see there is a .223 VZ58 MARS on a well known site for sale so someone else having second thoughts about the calibre they bought, or is it yours.
Looks to have had very little use.

as for you sixshot, You are obviously considering this heavily, why bother waiting for something that may never come? If you want the larger calibre and can afford it now, get that variation in! hell if you can afford it, keep your .223 and see which you prefer, and then move on the rifle you then don't like. If you buy the 7.62 2nd hand, and only put a few hundred rounds through, if you don''t like it, you should be able to shift it on for what you bought it for.

there is no point regretting what might have been, go get it and try it.

If you can't afford it, and would need to sell the .223 to get it, then maybe start with a journey. see if you can find someone with the 7.62 version (who will let you play with it), and somewhere you can shoot the distances you want to shoot, and go meet up for some fun. then you can get a good feel for what you are getting into, and should stop you from selling off the .223 that you enjoy, only to find you don't like the 7.62 for some reason, and then wind up regretting selling the .223

that's my view anyway...

Good point Brad, I possibly after all this, the only person that can make the decision though is me and I've got to make my own mistakes possibly. Everyone thanks for the advice. I'm going to go have a long hard think about what I'm doing.

I'd personally go 7.62x39. Purely because it's the "proper" calibre for the rifle.

They'll both perform roughly the same to the distance you've suggested. After shooting the vz58 in semi-auto in the proper calibre, I don't think I'd like to go for the smaller round...
