The rifle is long since gone however there is still a cleaning kit and bayonet here, I had a thing for collecting the Eastern block rifle oilers for a while however they reached silly prices so I gave up.
I notice a lot of them come without bayonet lugs these days, is there a reason for this?

Some do and some don't, it's partly to do with the hunting rifle thing and where the rifle ends up as some countries allow bayonet lugs and others don't but it is also a bit of a lucky dip as to which part is fitted on a particular day!.On rifles destined for the Russian market the chamber has a "ring" in it that leaves a slightly raised ring around the neck of the case, this is so Russian law enforcement can differentiate between a round fired from a civilian rifle or a military one, my SVD has this ring but the SVDS doesn't so the SVD was originally destined for the Russian market which could explain why it has the two position adjustable gas regulator fitted. It is also unusual in that it doesn't have "TIGR" on the side of the receiver like other civilian versions so I think that potentially what you get in the box is whatever the factory is making that day parts wise.ovenpaa wrote:The rifle is long since gone however there is still a cleaning kit and bayonet here, I had a thing for collecting the Eastern block rifle oilers for a while however they reached silly prices so I gave up.

What type of bayonet you still got?.

The one in the picture had the gas regulator on it which could be adjusted with a 54R round, it also had the ring cut into the chamber at the base of the neck. The bayonet is an SVD apparently, anymore than that I cannot say as I know nothing about such things

It was a Russian market one as well by the sound of it.The SVD used the same standard knife bayonet as issued with the AKM and there was an early type1 which had a rounded pommel and a steel scabbard with a rubber insulator on it and there was the type2 which had a orangey coloured handle which was squarer, a squarer steel pommel that contained the latch mechanism and also a orangey coloured resin scabbard (the resin was called AG-14 and was the same stuff the AKM "Bakelite" magazines were made from).Much later ones were issued with the black AK-74 issue bayonet.I've got a nice type1 and a type2 knocking about, will post a pic when I get chance.ovenpaa wrote:The one in the picture had the gas regulator on it which could be adjusted with a 54R round, it also had the ring cut into the chamber at the base of the neck. Look at this - 900 euros.......sigh:
http://www.egun.de/market/item.php?id=5370925
Perhaps get a German dealer to buy it, rebarrel it and remove the gas piston and cylinder and then import into UK?
It's 650 quid - and I paid a lot more than that for mine. Anybody who wants an SVD bad would surely find that they could get it landed in the UK for less than 2 grand? Couldn't they?
Whilst you're getting the barrel changed - could get em to put a longer one on it too (this one is 20")

Does it have Russian Cyrillic instead?

Here is mine.
Swapped it for some stuff the dealer needed. The stuff only cost me £200.
Had some fun with it for a while then sold it on. Enjoyed it while I had it.
