In short you won't Dave ts paid close to £5000 for that one and they just don't come up that often.
There a nice rifle worth that I'm not convinced but you pays your money you take your choice.

It's an interesting conversation piece, but there is no way that I would pay circa £5K (or even half that) for a gun that has standard trigger and an old battle sight on it - especially considering what you could get for the same money. For comparison, you could get a Steyr AUG (which IMO is a better rifle) for about £1K, so you are really paying the rarity/privilege, rather than the quality of the rifle.

If you were to use it in service rifle type competitions, then the SUSAT is going to put you at a disadvantage against other shooters in the "service optic" classes - and if not, then that's a lot of money for a plinking rifle.

Nothing wrong with a SUSAT if you learn to use it properly, SOA team use them on AUGs.

It was bought partly because I wanted to fill in the gap in my collection of British Army service rifles from WW II to present (or as close as you can get to them) - so you are right, it is basically a plinker and bought for the rarity/privilege.

I've got a SGC Speedmaster in .223 and a 30" barreled semi custom .308 for 'serious' target work, which is why I didn't buy something like the AUG.

I do plan to come back and do some CSR matches with it, and i'm not bothered that it only has the SUSAT on as in reality I am a pretty crap shot, unlike most of the others that shoot CSR, so I am never going to be expecting to get in the results anyway!

A very nice collection.

Though pricey, if I had the money, I would have done the same and bought it, it's all about the collecting!

I still wonder what the MoD did with all the L98A1s when they were withdrawn from the cadets. I know most of them would have needed rebarrelling before you even considered doing anything else, twenty years of neglect at the hands of inept teenagers armed with pullthroughs would have destroyed the crowns and throats.

I recall reading somewhere (maybe even on here!) that they were broken down for usable spares, mostly for the trigger mechanism housing.
