Oi ...
you fat smart-pants rodent...
maybe ... but when the Gvt try to get our guns, we don't roll over for a tummy tickle but stand the ground. Moral of the story, I still have two 9x19, a 22 and a 44 in my safe :55:

"Give as little as possible, grab as much as you can" would be my personal view. So, before even thinking of keeping them "a la maison", let's start by trying to be allowed to use them. One thing at a time ...
...unless the government are the boys from Berlin!

Ya like getting yer tummy rubbed by Bosche goose-stepping square-heads!
I see more French people in uniform (American ones) at the annual J-Jour Circus/Carnival - complete with neck tattoo's and pony-tails - then were ever stationed on the Maginot Line in French uniform.

Mmm, or I can go to Finland & Sweden (which are closer to me) & shoot pistols (& full auto)
Have always been on the look for a club in Normandy...never spotted any yet on my trips.

Could do with finding a shop in La Belle France for some Auto 5 odds & sods.
I also want one of the old French shotshell presses that were made in Normandy - a "Thalson" - so never mind the 9mm pistols your granny got from her tourist boyfriend back in '43, get me a few addresses or I'll get JohnMH to have his Navy chums give the froggy fleet another good turn...

Firearms UK have been in touch with me and say they are "unlikely to change the wording", though they deny that they want pistols to be legalised with home storage prohibited.

I'll say this: I saw two drafts of the Firearms UK petition wording, which referred to repealing explicit acts and sections of the law. I asked people I know who are very familiar with those laws for their opinions on the wording, adjusted my own views accordingly and passed on my belief that the proposed wording could cause more trouble for shooting as a whole if it gained traction. It appears I was ignored. Fine; I'm used to this happening, at least until after the event.

Let's not be under any misconceptions, though. The wording of the current "unity campaign" petition to legalise .22 pistols explicitly states that home storage of pistols would be banned and also allows a separate licensing scheme to operate for pistol clubs, over and above the approval and licensing schemes we're already familiar with. Given the current police desire to raise more revenue from shooters, this licensing scheme could so easily turn into an ACPO cash cow which we would have no power to challenge or overturn, bar throwing a six-figure sum at lawyers over a protracted period.

If you're going to call for specific acts and sections of the law to be repealed, you need to be damn sure you understand the effects of what you're asking for. I cannot support this petition, and I'll tell every shooter I know exactly why it's a bad idea to do so.

Having gone back and read Gaz's detailed comments in the petition thread I'm feeling a bit annoyed at myself for signing it. I think your (Gaz's) opinion that simply repealing Amendment 2 would cause more trouble than good is extremely valid, and I'm disapointed that Firearms UK haven't taken that on board.
Its good that people are still pushing for a repeal but we need to box clever, I'd like to see a bit more support from our national bodies, primarily the BSSC who should be taking the lead.

Don't forget, it is an election year next year so if we want to see progress now is the time to start pushing.

Gaz, we consulted with yourself and others as part of our initial peer review stage for the petition, your feedback and suggestions where taken on board and led to some changes from our initial draft. You are not however the sole person we have consulted, and just as you have been in contact with people whose opinion I understand you trust on such matters, so have we.

We have consulted with a majority of the established shooting organisations within the UK and continue to work with a growing number of organisations with respect to this campaign. Everyone contacted has had an opportunity to provide feedback, as you have done, but where that feedback and suggestions differ with respect to wording of petition text or implementation we will where required defer to the judgement of those in the position of the highest experience and capacity to benefit the campaign.

You are welcome to e-mail myself or a colleague to discuss this matter, but to refer to your earlier comments, no, I PERSONALLY do not expect we will revise the petition simply because you disagree with an aspect of it, not when we have consulted with many more experienced stake holders than many of you will realize, all of whom have considered the petition text at length and "signed off" on it.
