So a lovely afternoon in the garden this afternoon :) - 2 full hippo bags of prunings down the tip :!:

I took a picture of my rockery - there was nothing there 5 years ago, just the pond, grass bank and the cherry tree. My father installed a pump (i don't touch electrics  ), and I put the 'cascade' in - then i started to build a rockery around it, and this is it now. It's still ongoing, with 'trail and error' figuring out which plants can survive the winter, but i reckon 2 more years, and it'll be 'mature'

Seven or eight years ago on a visit to Carnac in Brittany I pick up a large pine cone. I bought it home and ever since it has sat on the mantle above the fire place as a reminder of that holiday. A couple of weeks ago ,I knocked off onto the floor, upon picking it up I noticed that a couple of seeds had fallen out.( I Hadn't noticed them before) I placed them on a bit of wet tissue and covered them with the same. I checked them this morning and much to my surprise they have germinated. They are now in pots in the green house. I have identified them as Maritime Pine (Pinus Pinaster) I have know idea if they will be able to cope with our cooler climate but I will give it a go.

Last year my grandson insisted on bringing some small pine cones home from Spain. After he had long forgotten them I went to chuck then out and found some seeds in the bottom of the carrier bag. here is the result exactly one year on.

My cactus has finally flowered :D - it's late this year due to all the summer rain...but worth the wait. It hasn't got the amazing colours of the Lupin (beautiful) recently posted - But for a 'plain old cactus' most of the year, it really is quite spectacular for 1 week....
