Some Police forces share the same view for 17HMR :(

I'd ask the FLD if they have a calibre choice/preference for foxes if thats what the rifle is going to be mainly used for
Our firearms office likes 17hmr but will not give a licence for a 22rf for fox as not enough power to kill in one shot. He will give bigger thats why I'm asking what you think would be best.

Well given the choice of .222/.223/22-250 I would be inclined to go for a .223, reloading data is plentiful as are the components and rifles. I seem to remember reading it was in the top three most popular full calibre rifles in the UK

It might be too big an ask to go straight to 223rem semi open...and straight to 22/250...an even bigger ask. Land approval tends to have brake points...22lr, 17HMR, 223rem, etc

Popular signifies fashion not necessarily best. The human race has a distinct herd instinct and a desire for sameness.

I agree with Dromia I'm a big fan of the triple 2. .222 Remington that is.

My .220 Swift was ok. Better than all the rest of its brethren, IMHO of course. We all have our own favourite.

I liked the .220 Swift as well and was a great performer when you got it working. However it did take me a bit of effort to get it to perform.

I use 223rem for fox...anything more is just over-kill.

Rob..
anything more is just over-kill.

I have permission on my firearm cert to shoot fox with .3030win 308win 6.5x55se and have done so. Yep, they all kill them but I have never felt that I over- kill them ;)
