[quote="Steve E"]I know nothing about 'factory' barrels using bespoke barrels like Kreiger, Lother Walther or Bartlien but in the Target Rifle world, barrels can last up to 12,000 rnds with care. I changed a Lother Walther that was on my target rifle at closer to 14,000 rounds,/quote]

Are these stainless or chrome-moly

Presuming that fitting a barrel to a Savage is no different than any other rifle (cut the right diameter tenon then thread) then a new barrel like a 30'' Krieger will be in the region of £600-£650 fitted and proofed.

These barrels are stainless. The Lother Walther are a harder 'stainless'(not sure what the spec is) than Krieger which is why some gun smiths especially in USA will not fit them as chamber reamers allegedly do not last long when used on a Lother Walther. HPS fit Lother Walther as their standard barrel and do not have problems chambering them. They also seem to last a lot longer, as I said I changed a Lother walther at close to 14,000 rounds.

Steve
It is a modified AISI 420 which has higher carbon content than AISI 416R used by other barrel makers
thanks
