Just to add fuel to the fire.

I use one of the cartridge types a lot.
I sight it at around 25yds and use one of my ballistic apps to calculate a zero range at
100yds..always on the paper and usually within 3 or 4 inches.

Maybe I am just lucky.

The cartridge types may be better than the 'stuff it down the muzzle' types that I have tried without success.

I think Vince said it best '' Bore sighting works and its free''

I am a gadget freak but these things are a waste of cash.

I have a Bushnell stuff in the barrel type, its only use now is for anoying the dogs, as for a laser boresighter as much use as tits on a bull
