Thanks guys for all the suggestions, some options there I hadn't thought of.

That's a 50's into 60's era one with the smaller rounded shape and those handles.
The WW2 era one's with the AM stamp, were bigger and more square in shape, and had canvas strap handles.

I use an olive green toolbag I got from Aldi it was £15ish and it has the important, for me, solid base.
In the UK you need a solid base on your range bag so that when it gets wet it doesn't suck up the moisture and ruin your gear.

I went the tool box route as well. Solid plastic base with a 1" lip so sitting on wet ground is not an issue. Fits a 50cal ammo can and spotting scope along with some tools and a drink. I think I paid less than this but it is this mine.

After seeing other fellow shooters with back packs, bags and so on, I went the route of hard boxes.
I have a Plano type large instrument box for ammo, magazines, box of bolts, bipods, scopes, flags, etc -something like this:

And I have a Plano shooters box with gun rest with cleaning stuff, Alan keys etc - ideal for cleaning, prepping the guns, etc:

The reason I went this route is that I found that one box will not accommodate all it is needed - unless it is humongous and hard to put in the boot of the car after all rifles have been loaded.
My separate boxes allows me a better management of things and keeps oils and cleaning products away from bolts, ammo and magazines.
The ammo/bolts/mags box can be stored either way as ammo won't ming if goes on its side
The Plano shooters box stores all products upright and has rifle holders.

This is how I roll.
Simple Stanley tool bag with plastic reinforced bottom and two-tiered zipped top with plastic folders.
Placed inside a modified (slimmed down and reinforced( wine bottle crate. Held together with a cargo strap.
The box was made for placing a rifle rest atop it when lying prone. When shooting at a bench I use it as a temp spent case dump. It also doubles as a stool when stood on end. I lug it about on a shoulder strap.

This has got me looking at these tool bags/boxes now because of the waterproof/ingress issue, as have been caught out by that with just my old tech canvas WW2 era holdall.

I have a small flight bag that was £9 on Amazon. It holds enough stuff for rifle shooting and is small and light enough to carry around clay shooting. And easily holds 100 cartridges each for me and the missus.
Its held up extremely well so far but if it does break.... £9, I will just get another one! In fact I might get a couple more now so, as someone else said, I don't have to constantly swap equipment round for different disciplines.
