Re: Excited
RASP = Range Action Safety Plan required by the MOD as well as a Covid 19 risk assessment and several other documents that have to be supplied for every range booking you bid for as well as a track and trace document.
Range bookings and club stuff take up at least two full days a week as well has holding down a full time job. The Club secretaries job is a thankless task. I often wonder why I do it.

Re: Excited
By the end of April I am on track to have at least 50 shooters on MOD full bore ranges if I can swing it I would like the number to be 80 I am working on it.
Most of the ranges are 100 yards with a 300 yards and a 600 yards thrown. I take whatever I can get. This week I have also secured a Barrack range.

Looking forward to it here, too.

Re: Excited
I can get 80 shooters on range in any one month all though its a paperwork melt down job. My biggest disappointment is the Barrack range the licencing people were OK with issuing me a licence but the Guys in the Barrack wont let me on until July. I am none essential personnel which is fair enough. The next challenge is the Clubs indoor ranges we are in discussions as to how that will work if at all.
Hmm whats next
reloading reloadind and reloading.
The training of probationers is proving to be an issue as well they are not allowed on MOD ranges at the moment.

Re: Excited
I didn't manage to achieve 80 shooters unfortunately but the first week in April I have 60 shooters on MOD ranges. So I will take that as a result and work on increasing the numbers in May.
How are you guys getting. When I say how are you getting by the way I mean the regional Clubs not Bisley. I have no interest in what goes on in Bisley.

Re: Excited
Say, that's great to hear that your ranges are opening up again!
Wise or not, our state has a law defining firearms ranges and gun shops as "essential businesses," which essentially means that they cannot be shut down due to covid. This includes indoor ranges. However, most indoor shooting leagues suspended their activities over the last winter. Outdoor leagues and competitions around here generally start in April; should be interesting with all the new shooters that moved to Idaho recently from more restrictive states.

Re: Excited
We have worked out a strategy that fits with the road plan for the indoor ranges using a booking system. Our 25 yard outdoor range will operate with the 6 people rule.
Commencing in May I will be looking at having 80 people on MOD ranges spread out over the months bookings I could have more but I have to draw a line on the paperwork involved and the amount of my time it takes up.
How are you guys getting on.

Re: Excited
I can sure sympathise Dark Skies - I am in the same boat over here In New Zealand. It's 70km each way trip for me to the ranges at Trentham (near Wellington) , and I have the same issues with sciatica.Dark Skies wrote:I'm not so sure I miss lying on the ground, my back aching (sciatica caused by a stupid sporting accident), with the possibility of rain, to put holes in paper. .
I wonder if I buy a long bipod, they would let me shoot sitting? Scores won't be anything to write home about, but at least I could be more comfortable. Just for a lark, I think I will ask.
Re: Excited
We've got a few mature gentlemen in our club who now struggle with getting up and down from the prone. A few have bought "hunting seats". Lightweight frame, seat and a rest. Most of them seem to fold up in a bag. Works well.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Re: Excited
I have to use a rather nice MTM Hi-Low shooting table and a portable seat, my son, having seen it, decided he didn't like lying down and also wanted one!
Luckily I brought mine back from the US a couple of years ago at about 1/2 the price they are here!.

A very adjustable bit of kit, can be used prone, sitting or standing.
