1. Find a police station which still has an open public counter (can be difficult).
2. Remove rifle from gun bag and place on counter.
3. Watch counter clerk / station enquiry officer do a headless chicken impression.
4. Convince clerk / seo that you are not a 'nutter' and show them your FAC to prove it.
5. After clerk / SEO calms down, wait 20 minutes while they find the right form to accept the rifle FOR DESTRUCTION.
6. Wait another 20 or 30 minutes for the form to be filled out and large (evidence?) bag to be found for the rifle to be stored in 'until the firearms boys can take it away'.
7. Go home after nearly an hour.

...or, as many have suggested, hand it into your local RFD = much less time wasted and maybe your RFD can get some use out of it.

Every gun that I have ever scrapped I have just taken into my local Registered firearms dealer. Not that I have scrapped a lot of guns.
Has already pointed out the action might be worth saving.

DON'T destroy a Swing, no matter how old or battered.............it's a signature British target rifle that, in capable hands, has won the Queens prize on many occasions..............

I've taken a couple in to my local police station in the past. We actually had police stations then so it was an awful long time ago.
What I took in was of absolutely no salvageable value what so ever. I definitely wouldn't surrender a useable action.

At the time the desk officers dealt with them quickly and efficiently with no problems finding the right form even if I had to help them fill them in properly. I would hate to try and surrender a firearm these days even if I could find a police station that you could visit because the volunteers behind the counter have difficulty finding their own backsides never mind the correct form.

As others have said-take it to an RFD.

I cant speak for all but I know at least one of my local RFDs would just take in guns to be scrapped.

If memory serves they would sit in a box and once a quarter be sent to an auctioneer that or if someone coincidentally comes in needing parts they can always look through the bin.

I for one am always looking for local guns destined for the scrap heap if only to get their stock-I can use them to practice on with the laser engraver or trying out other ideas.

May I suggest its best donated to British Young Shooters Assoc.

They will recover it to a workable target or match rifle & have swing parts & spares.

Their chair is also an RFD. Contact R. Stebbings https://youngshooter.co.uk/

It could also be handed to a range of RFD's who will get it to them from the North east to Cheshire, Brum, HPS in Newent & others in the south. Give it & the sport a future by donating. They have over 200 members.
