We all should do it... without exception.
The reason is simple - this all came about because of a political desire to be seen to do something in respect of gun (gang) crime mainly but not restricted to London. The need to be seen to do something was intense... and that is evident by the amount of care taken over the impact assessment. Ten minutes by a four year old on the back of a fag packet that grew into a gun grab over and above just MARS.
But when you cannot impose any more laws on the illegal, the only thing that you can do is to sell the public a line... and be seen to do something against the only group that you can - that of legal firearms owners (because there is no out for us owing to registration).
The reason that the 50 went on hold was because a. There was a group that stood up and was counted (and take note - wouldn't be told that it was a done deal by the HO) and b. It pushed the Committee for evidence of the problem (which of course it could not provide). The same would have been true of LR, but the facade of representation by our dysfunctional organizations meant that that did not happen.
If you want to achieve an outcome that is not there for you, you sow the seed, let others such as NABIS and the GCN (even though they are grossly over represented in terms of their numbers) of course start to raise concerns... and then you have the problem that needs addressing.
The reason to paint them pink - because that will diminish both local police hierarchy intent on the next promotion and reps from the HO / Govt from presenting pictures of piles of evil guns taken "off of the streets" when in reality not one would have come from the streets (just out of lawful ownership already under strict control).
What this has done is to trample on individual rights and set a dangerous precedent - that something can be banned just because it may be "taken and used in crime".
The very best that any certificate holder can do to save shooting is for us all to stick £20 in a pot - straight away you have 15 million able to be used for legal challenge / judicial review etc.
Right now, air gunners are starting to feel the heat (as every gun owner will in good time). But how many of them fought to save LR / 50 etc.?
