I thought that too. And as far as I'm aware the staff in TVP are civilian, so their entire day should be focused on firearms.
Senior police chiefs are the ones continually pushing for all this faffery - they've should have anticipated their resources and had the staff in place to cope - justifying their rather generous salaries and pensions.

I've been reading Ian Liddell-Grainger's blog. I'm beginning to rather warm to him.

They cant......I sent my FAC back for an address change and after 4 weeks I called them to see what was going on....two days later it was back so the little nudge "found" it in the pile of stuff to do.

Notice how all the comments at the end of the story completely miss the point: that it shouldn't take 16 weeks. Not to mention the obligatory idiot who asked why he needs a gun.

Interesting story, I liked the fact that the police officer didn't fold when he was told of this fellas magnificence as an annointed MP .
I agree with the officer, and Sim G, but have to point out that none of the enquiries for my certs is carried out by a police officer as far as I'm aware.
Of course if continuity ACPO had their way I am sure the whole process would be more costly and more complicated, they are essentially the architects of the gross system we have now, having pushed for every little bit of unnecessary bureaucracy involved.
They have consistantly pushed for more controls on one hand while whining about lack of resources on the other, essentially blackguarding us as a group for putting a strain on police resources. I am sure that we, more than any other group the police deal with, are the primary contributers of funding for the police anyway despite what they milk out of us for certificates.
Yes, 16 weeks is rediculous and many forces *(sorry got to say service ?? now ), do it much quicker. so there really should be some oversight on this, the government tells us when schools and health trusts are failing, why not police forces?

Maybe if they spent less time attending meetings , the turn around would be faster .
Last week many Firearms Managers spent two days in London , for what reason we will probably never be told !

That reminded me of the Monty Python sketch Shugie
18 hours a day, thats luxury....We had to work 25 hours a day, come home and lick the road clean then have a freezing cold lump of poison before bed!
Sorry for the veer off, as you were chaps

Four Yorkshiremen. Reminds me of another comment from yesterday, on learning one of our number is moving north. "You can always tell a Yorkshireman, but you can't tell him much" I remember my gran from Leeds telling me that one.

Last tie I spoke with an acquaintance in the Maidenhead area he was at 7 months for a renewal. Have not seen him for a few week, but it is probably still on-going! As I mentioned in another thread TVP have outsourced - at increased cost, to G4S!
