Are you looking for mild, target loads, or going for some teeth rattling?

just mild target loads. it was my 44mag cowboy load but noticed it was pretty accurate and repeatable too.

I get very consistent (and accurate) loads using either TiteGroup or Nobel GM3 in 44mag gallery loads.

thanks, I am starting to look at gm3 for my cowboy 44spl, but its mainly the weight of bullet I was unsure of, as the few recipes i've seen seem to show only one or two powders. 255 seems to be very common weight for 45LC though.

do you load this weight with gm3? or a 240gr?

I'm just erring on the side of caution, seeing if anyone says 'ZOMG!! don't do that, it'll blow up etc'

6.0 to 6.5gn of GM3 works nicely with 200 or 240gn cast, MV of around 800 - 875fps if I remember correctly, will have to check the load record sheet at my club to be sure.

lol, yeah but by PM, so he wasn't to know ;)

so it's looking like the weight isn't a huge issue for the plinking level loads

"Cowboy" or plinking loads with a 255gn cast bullet.

Tightgroup 4.5gns
Bullseye 4.7gns
Unique 6.6gns

All are max loads in the bracket and should give around 800fps or just over. I prefer a little more powder and go with Alliant 2400, 10.0gns also around 820fps from a carbine.

The beauty of 2400 is that you don't need a. additional powder if you really want to stoke it up a bit....

22.0gns of 2400 will give you a "healthy" 1200fps.
