I would have thought it was illegal to shoot someone else's hand once, never mind loads...!

Not illegal at all, however....

If you "give" another certificate holder ammunition, free gratis as a favour, you just need to enter it on his certificate if he is to take that ammo away from the club.

Likewise, if a mate buys the components and gives them to you for you to make the ammo, again, if he is to take them from the club, you need to enter them on his FAC.

If someone in the club is making ammo for a bunch of you and you pay him, either for the components, his time or both, he is manufacturing and selling by way of business or trade and he will need to be a RFD and have the ammo CIP approved, which I believe is only done at the Birmingham proof house.

Incidentally, you don't need to be an RFD to manufacture or sell only shotgun cartridges, but they will still need to be CIP approved.

Interesting - I've often wondered why we need to add ammunition onto certificates - if i take away someone elses handloads they need to be entered. If i then go home and make my own they don't need to be entered. Doesn't really seem any point to it all!

Because you have "acquired" the ammunition from a third party.

However regardless of legality of shooting somebody's home loads it does require an act of faith on your part in their competence. My club prohibits the use of home loads in any of the club's own guns now after a club gun was destroyed by a member using his own ammo.

That is exactly how I was taught to reload by my mentor. I will shoot his hand loads and he will shoot mine..very rarely the need though. The trust is implicit between us, we know one another's standards.

I would say you can do what you like with your own gun and face ?

I know an individual who loads specifically for someone else, but this is done on a trust basis afer the recipient got blown up and does not have the confidence (not his fault as it goes, but he was bloody lucky, everything blew downwards on an Open F class rifle an dhe got a shock and minor cuts).

But its something I would never try unless it was loaded and developed specifically for my rifle.

A certain person on here knows what happens when you try chambering a "not fl resized" round in another AR...its a bugger to get out...even though it did not chamber

Out of interest, I did an internet search to see what actions had led to the "blowing up" of a modern rifle...the main culprit seemed to be the reloading of a fast powder in large quantities into a rifle cartridge which required a slow rifle powder. The reloader did not have their specs on and picked up a pot of Trailboss, or something similar, rather than the correct slow rifle powder. The various pots of powder looked similar....this is a rather basic mistake but might suggest that the powder containers should be better marked, possibly with very large print..or colour coded.
I could not find much else which had resulted in serious damage to.a modern rifle. No powder at all, followed by a second shot may bulge the barrel but I could not find any published example of a rifle seriously wrecked.
Incorrectly identified powder seems to be the main problem to consider.
