I would have been off to the Mayfair range this afternoon or tonight if I could have but we have a party to go to tonight.

From what I understand H&R usually get you to send the rifle back to them for fitting as they are a bit like Mr Kipling!, individually hand fitted.

I'm sure I found an article somewhere showing what's involved, basically just ensuring it mates properly with the rear part of the action.

That's what I heard as well. My Rossi and my Handi-Rifle are the same design but where the barrel pivots on the receiver is in a slightly different position which makes them incompatible.

What are you going to use it for? Purely targets or hunting. It's an interesting action, size and caliber!

Being 6' 5" I thought having a big black gun would make me look cool, especially when I get the tacticool adjustable stock and forend for it! lol

Seriously though, it's mainly for indoor target (25m) with monthly trips to the outdoor range, I still need to find a moderator for it as my original plan to fit my Wildcat Predator 8 or DM804 with an extra threaded bridge won't work, the over-barrel section is far too long.

I've loaded a range of ammo to try in it, subsonic 115gr cast RN and RNFP. 168gr Nosler CC and 210gr cast spire point, for longer range supersonic 168gr Nosler CC over 16.5gr of H110 as a starting load.

Managed to get to the Mayfair 25m indoor range this afternoon, ran the barrel in with 30rnds patch cleaning between shots etc.

Trigger is quite stiff but breaks very, very cleanly, after a bit more cleaning and getting settled in I put 10 rounds of home loaded subsonic through it, 4gr of Viht N310 and a 125gr "soup can" flat nosed cast boolit. Couple of adjustments got me on the edge of the centre and one more got me just about dead on, will set it more accurately when I have a rest and bag to shoot off.

Very pleased for it's first outing, very easy to shoot and extremely cheap to feed :good:

If you want to come touch it I won't tell anyone :good:

I tried my Sinclairs Tactical Bipod on it earlier, it just looked too silly for words

Had it at Ponteland range on Sunday and given that I had the scope too far back for prone to get a proper hold it did quite well at 100m :good:

I've now moved the scope forward and will try it again next month, what I really need though is a shorter forend (ooh err!) something like this one,

Reason being there's not enough barrel to fit the moderator so I can either chop off 1" of the existing forend or replace it with the shorter one. Only problem is finding one over here, plenty sets in the US at around $53 but none that will ship here.

I had toyed with the idea of fitting a 6" AR type handguard but it needs to have the curved cut out at the back as the action uses it as part of the hinge system.

Moderator now sorted, bought a set of "compact" tubes and a 5/8 UNEF bridge for my existing Predator 8 and shortened it down, perfect fit :good:
