I have been in touch with an old friend from TA and he thinks he might know the photographer, just waiting to see if he is still in contact with him.

Bloody craphats :55:
I do remember there being a rack of them languishing in an armoury when i did my course. That was the 90's so they weren't all passed over. I did hear that some were supposedly sold on to India, but that was so long ago. Ancient history.
Would it not be better to source one of those ex-police ones - Enfield Enforcer?

It would be a nice thought, but in our house myself and the OH don't get a look in for hobbies until every thing else more important is cleared.Scotsgun wrote:Bloody craphats :55:

1/ Mortgage.
2/ Other bills.
3/ Debts.
4/ Kids.
5/ Dog.
6/ Holidays.
7/ Hobbies.
Trouble is most years we don't even get past No.5 on the list. Paypal is my usual hobby fund, things I make and sell, but even then quite often that is raided for other things.
Re: L42A1
My first full bore rifle was a No4 Mk1 that had been re chambered in 7.62 and was dressed like an Enforcer. It cost £200 and kept me happy for a while.
My biggest gripe with it was that it would not feed reliably. On one occasion I was very close to throwing it in to the bushes at the 200 yard point whilst competing in the McQueens.
I had assumed that this was a problem with that rifle but was told that it was never designed for 7.62 and despite swapping magazines never solved the issue.
I have seen several 7.62 Enfields and have noted that the feeding issue is wide spread.
I did shoot a rather nice .223 version and won a comp with that - I have a history of borrowing guns and beating their owners!
Did the official L42's have feeding issues, or did the armourers know something that has been lost in time?

Re: L42A1
L42s and L39s and Enforcers and Envoys when fitted with the correct Enfield hammered barrel do not have feeding problems.
I suspect that your No4 conversion had problems because the barrel was not one of the original enfield ones. The original barrels had a a rather deep chamfer on the rear of the chamber to ease feeding probably, in the region of .10'' X 45 degrees.
Also to remember that the original No4 conversions did not have a 7.62 magazine. They had the original .303 magazine and it was used as a loading platform only.
My Envoy does not have an enfield barrel (it has a 30'' Madco) and thus does not feed from the magazine, purely because the chamber does not have the chamfer. Fultons have offered to chamfer the chamber for me or fit an unused envoy barrel (they have several). I am happy with the way my rifle shoots so have declined their kind offer. I do not shoot 'rapid fire' of any description so I am happy.
