On top of what you outlined there is control re the animals being shot, it is called management.

Management - conservation - ecology - it all goes hand in hand.

Trophy hunting is a term invented by people who have never seen real life.
They have read about hunting and shop at Tesco.

I grew up in an environment where animals where killed for eating/clothing. It is a natural cycle. It really does not matter if it is a rich oil chap from Texas shooting the animal and paying the locals for services needed or the locals killing the animal. The animal still dies and gives its meat to humans.

Although I have never tried lion nor anything else that lives in Africa my mother certainly has as she lived there for some 8 years.
When I was a girl I had seal/reindeer/whale/sea birds as a stable diet.

I am a vegetarian - has been since I moved back to Denmark when I was about 15, do not like the taste of farmed animals nor the way animals are being treated at the abattoir.

Ever heard pigs on a transport van scream as they are moved inside the abattoir....think about that next time you eat bacon.

And the latest ...............The Shooting Show event – which was to be held at the Liverpool Exhibition Centre – was cancelled, with the decision being endorsed by wildlife TV presenter Chris Packham.

Agreed, he seems to be just an anti of anything he doesn't agree with and just intolerant of other peoples views and opinions.

I can't believe on a shooting forum that there is the need to explain the benefits of shooting animals to conservation in places like Africa. As a sport shooting is doomed.

Many other forums members such as myself are target shooters and therefore, have a) little interest or b) understanding of hunting.

Well if Joe Anderson and Liverpool City Council get their way people will no longer need to justify any form of hunting, regardless of species or location here in the UK.

And in some areas the local tribes and villages sell the management to outsiders who wish to hunt - again, everybody wins.


Have had some very nice BBQs in Africa with locally source meats - boar, zebra, giraffe, antelope (of various varieties) and the best ever "LION of sprinbok" - a rather unfortunate spelling mistake, especially when I knowingly asked "can I have the LION please" ...
