Try tightening a wee bit first to get some movement, then try unscrewing it. I'm assuming the section that's stuck is the bridge to the dimpled section, ie the front, as the rear section is held in by a rubber o ring and does not unscrew.

Yes, the rear ("reflex"?) section came off with no problems, its the dimpled part that stuck to the bridge.

I don't need it for a while, so I think I'll drown it again in WD40 or penetrating oil and leave it several days... by then the rubber strap wrenches should have arrived so they'll help with grip... ( I'm afraid i don't have access to a 25 ton press :) )

If that doesn't work i'll start with heat... boiling water to start, then get the gas torch out.... that will destroy the rubber seals, but they're cheaper than a new moderator!

WD40 is just a water dispersant it sometimes works but frequently doesn't.
PlusGas is a dismantling fluid and much more efficient - I own an old Land Rover and this stuff was a godsend when I restored the wreck to its former glory.

I tried WD40 as I have a load of it... :) but I also have a can of graphite penetrating oil, so I might give that a go instead...

Just been reading up on Plusgas, sounds good, but I also may try the 50/50 acetone and ATF cocktail...

Soaking overnight or longer in a bucket of Diesel usually works and is cheaper than plus gas & the other stuff mentioned! (plus you can still use the diesel for fuel afterwards!)

Put it in a container of diesel or penetrating oil, and then put that in the ultrasonic tank.

Use the heater to get it hot and give it an hour or so with the tank running and hot.

i use plastic milk cartons to do this in my tank.

Yes, I did think about that... it gets too hot to hold... If i can't "non-destructively" get it apart by next weekend, I may try 5 rapid shots through it then try..

Heat with blow torch slowly, diesel on the thread (but no more blow torch!) tap the thread around with a small hammer - the impacts are not enough to damage anything but are often enough to make a bound thread move, break some cold welds & then the tighten & loosen trick............ then? BRUTE FORCE!
