when has an RFD ever 'proved' they had legal authority?? Where does it say anything like that on ticket?

the only reason you might need your ticket is to prove your certificate number.

Yes - another case of FEO making it up as they go along.

You dont need to produce your Sgc or Fac when selling.

Its not as if you are parked up in some pub car park selling a shotgun out of a car boot containing 20 more !

I am still not getting this.. why would anyone buy a gun if you do not show with your certificate you own it legally, otherwise what is to show that you have not stolen it? Also, if you do not record it as sold, would it not cause issues if the guns listed on your certificate do not match what is in the cabinet?

A bit of research might indicate we have done point two wrong, but it is still not clear.. I think I should check with our FEO to ensure we have not done anything which will cause trouble with our renewals next year..

When buying a gun, you need the seller to to enter his/her FAC no. on your FAC...........only a total mug would accept this without asking to see the seller's authority to possess, irrespective of some public-bar lawyers interpretation of the law.

There is no way on earth I’d buy a gun privately if I couldn’t see it on the sellers ticket, legal requirement or not (it isn’t by the way).

Just about to renew my SGC with Northumbria. There seems to be no requirement at all to send in the current one or a copy. Am I just missing something?

You would be overly trusting to buy a gun from someone you didn't know well and who couldn't produce their certificate to show that they were legally entitled to possess it. Saying that I have purchased a gun previously from a friend whose certificate was away for variation at the time but he was a long standing friend who I trusted absolutely.

I've bought and sold guns several times in pub carparks and laybys after agreeing to meet the buyer/seller half way. Several other shooters of my acquaintance have also done the same so its not totally unheard of. Certain enquiries have been made beforehand to ensure that the person that you were meeting was indeed genuine.

Yes, the OP sent his licence in to the police at renewal when he didn't need to (not even photocopies are required) and then wanted to sell one of his shotguns.
Arming the Country, one gun at a time.

Good deals with Paul101, Charlotte the flyer, majordisorder, Charlie Muggins, among others. Thanks everybody.
