As above, they just rot out from the inside due to condensation, I have sectioned them longitudinally in the past and they often just fall apart. I might have a reasonable sectioned one in the bin if anyone is interested in seeing a picture.

This is typical of what happens, the nose section rots around the edge however the baffles are still quite reasonable at his stage. It deformed only because of the way I clamped it in the horizontal bandsaw (They are a PITA to chop lengthways)

I have been experimenting with TIG welding T8 cans more because it is thin steel to good to practice on and being very honest I would say once they are holed they need to be binned as any form of repair would be unsound.
