Re: T8 mod
T8 - Angle grinder, they are of an all welded construction and the nut at the back is simply an over barrel bush.

or wait until it rots apart

Re: T8 mod
Yup the rot normally does the job, having said that they are superb things and I have certainly put enough shots through a T8 in my time, I also have a scrap bin with the remains of a handful in the workshop which is where they usually retire to once they have met the bandsaw from hell.

My T8 for my stalking 308 must be 15 years old now and still going well

I think you have been very lucky Duey and have probably had your money's worth then. I've seen several with rust holes generally on spot welds.
I believe the FC have a policy of replacing these mods every two years or 5,000 rounds whichever comes first.

Re: T8 mod
I'm probably only about 2500 round max, through mine, so that may be a big factor
Re: T8 mod
I was talking to a FC ranger the other day and he said that they have tested various other moderators but keep coming back to the T8 despite the potential issues with rusting. Their policy is clearly a control measure necessary to satisfy H&S requirements in a workplace environment. Most of us sporting shooters would I'm sure be very reluctant to accept a similar policy.
Re: T8 mod
I'm surprised that someone with a lathe hasn't taken up the rebuilding of this model.
Some sort of drop in replacement assembly could keep an otherwise worn out T8 in functioning condition.

Re: T8 mod
Not sure what you are suggesting there Saddler, it's the body that generally rusts through where the baffles are spot welded to it.
