Shotgun barrels are not a controlled part.

If held on s1, then yes an authority on FAC is required as it is legally a "firearm".

No requirement for a s2 barrel to be entered onto a SGC.

Just another anomaly....
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Being slightly obtuse here - how is the barrel of a section1 shotgun different to the barrel on a section 2 shotgun? Its only the magazine capacity that's different. If you put your section 2 barrel onto a section 1 stock then does it become a section 1 barrel and it can never go back to being a section 2 barrel?

As I said, one of those anomalies. A s1 shotgun is legally regarded as a firearm. A firearm requires a separate authority on an FAC for an additional barrel. That's just the way it is...

so if you have the same gun in both sec1 and sec 2 capacities. and buy a spare barrel, is it sec1 or 2?

I can understand is a barrel is under a certain length, but surely if it is long enough, its sec2, until it is mounted on a gun, reguardless of your intentions for it.

Nope it really does depend on which gun you were going to put it on and you couldn't (legally) use it on both without it being added to your FAC! kukkuk 8-)

Strathclyde were adamant I needed that a spare barrel for my S1 Hatsan had to be on my ticket. No idea why that barrel is different from the SGC barrel (S2).
