So if the car was full of booze and the 'designated driver' was driving his p*** up mates home but happened to have his gun in the boot you would suggest he have his tickets revoked.
I think not.
I think not.

Alcohol is LEGAL. Misused & abused, but 100% legit to buy & consume.
On the TV show weren't they all GOING TO the shoot, not driving home from it?
Intemperate habits can also result in certificate revocation.
Besides....all that illegal inner city urban crime (which results in the vast majority of the UKs illegal gun use/ownership) is really down to turf wars over home brew lager & table wines de jour! Nowt to do with the media smokescreen of cannabis & Columbian marching powder....so mixing guns & illegal drugs should be 100% risk free. Innit....

I think the key point of the OP is that they were on the way to do some shooting.
Re: Seen on TV. Guns and drugs? Instant FAC / SGC revocation
Seems the simple but effective application of common sense is missing. It may be legal but is it wise given the paranoia over firearms in the UK. A wee word to the wise would be all that is needed, driver has committed no offence.
With RIGHTS comes responsibility.....
IMO drugs and guns do not mix.

A lot of things don't mix, guns, cars, illegal drugs, alcohol, prescription drugs, mental instability, mobiles (when driving) the list is endless.
My point is that it is ridiculous and ignorant to say that a driver should be held responsible for the actions or intent of passengers (unless driving a get-away car
).
Should bus and taxi drivers be responsible as well?
Admittedly, openly puffing weed in a car in whatever circumstances is daft to say the least. I ride around Birmingham every week and smell it coming out of cars. Police must notice it but I bet they turn the blind eye.
I don't condone anything which affects driving adversely. The studies/research, testing ability to drive at different levels of intoxication show that there is no safe amount of alcohol.
Interestingly, a few years ago Quentin Wilson did a Top Gear program (season 1 episode 4) where a 'stoner' was tested before and after smoking cannabis. I pass no judgement but google it to see the results.

Interesting discussion....
I think a few people didn't get what I was amazed about, this wasn't a question about being responsible for passengers or the rights and wrongs of weed etc.
The main point was how can a responsible gun owner take his mates shooting, at night, when they were planning on getting wasted.
In my view, it doesn't matter how they were getting there.....lending some-one who is not in complete control through drugs, or drink, shows a massive error of judgement.

I'm sure your right but if all gun owners were responsible then we wouldn't be in the gun-control farcical mess we are now.walesdave wrote:Interesting discussion....

I
Of course we would.
It is not gun owners that are the issue but those with criminal intent - usually the owners of illegal guns.
Going shooting and having a spiff (or your companions having one) at the same time is just bloody silly!
