Re: next gun
Isn't a race to the finish! I'm just gonna work my loads with that in mind. A very experienced shooter in my club shoots the same calibre, and shoots his 123s at around 2700 and shoots constant v's at 200 out to 500. Not sure what he shoots at 1000 though..

Re: next gun
I'm looking for a No4T but it has to be "dead right" as I'm a fussy sod ! Trouble is I'm not that keen on the £3k-£4k plus price band.

Depends what you mean by 'dead right'.....?lasbrisas wrote:I'm looking for a No4T but it has to be "dead right" as I'm a fussy sod ! Trouble is I'm not that keen on the £3k-£4k plus price band.
From my looking in the past 12 months, nothing that I looked at in the £3-4k range was 'dead right', but I suspect I maybe even more fussy......and the only one that I saw that was 'dead right' was considerably more than £4k....!!

Yeah at 500 I wouldn't be so bothered by velocity. At 1,000 you'll want to stay clear from transonic velocities if possible. Not sure how fast my rounds are going at 1,000 yards but they start doing funny things around 1,300 yards!
I've loaded using Ramshot Big Game, Reload Swiss RS50 and RS60. I would recommend the latter, I get good velocity standard deviation and extreme spread using RS60.
Ask Mik whether your rifle will need Small Rifle primers to Small Rifle Magnum primers. The firing pin hold on my Remington 700 has a chamfer on it so when I used regular Small Rifle primers they would often get pierced and my firing pin hold would get clogged up. I swapped to Small Rifle Magnum primers and all was good.
Food for thought!

Re: next gun
Just bought (within the last couple of weeks) a Ruger Precision Rifle http://rugerrifles.co.uk/product/ruger-precision-rifle/ (6.5CM), added a Phoenix bipod (http://www.phoenixtactical.co.uk/cleaning-kits.html) and Sightron 8x32x56 (http://opticswarehouse.co.uk/product/si ... iflescope/).
Swapping my Sako Quad (.22LR + .22WMR barrels - see other thread on reasons why here: http://www.full-bore.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=65&t=27828) for a Ruger American Rimfire http://rugerrifles.co.uk/product/ruger- ... -standard/ (4 weeks wait); personal choice, I await the comments and criticisms from the Sako and wooden stock fanboys :)
Other than that I need to decide what to add to my FAC to replace the Sako and spare barrel, thinking of 2x .308 (I already have slots for .22RF which will be used for Ruger American Rimfire), .223 [would like a semi custom Remington 700 in an AT stock] and centre fire moderator). I am thinking the 2x .308 will be 1) Ruger Precision Rifle and 2) Savage FTR (but not sure if an FTR will fit in my safe (these are a longer term purchase).

Re: next gun
True but notice I said plus, some are crazy prices, I saw one with the chest and everything for £8k, by "right" I mean markings, serial numbers, correct scope for year, no fake or repro parts etc etc, I know it's a minefield and if I'm shelling out a big wedge I want it as near a damn it to be all original.GeeRam wrote:Depends what you mean by 'dead right'.....?lasbrisas wrote:I'm looking for a No4T but it has to be "dead right" as I'm a fussy sod ! I have a specific reason to want one for sentimental reasons as my father was a sniper during WW2 and used one, he was also shot on Friday 13th and survived and got out of the war.

Re: next gun
Have a S&W M&P 15-22 on order for what seems to have been an eternity, its getting chopped to 12". I've literally got all the replacement parts and add-ons set out on my shooting bench in the place they will go on/in the rifle, I've got that sad
The last item for it arrived from South Africa yesterday so now I'm really chomping at the bit!

Re: next gun
Cheers for that, I'll certainly ask him when i go down to big the gun up at the start of November, had been told else where (May have been on here) that the bernards shouldn't have any issues with piercing primers, may actually have been Laurie that mentioned it. But i'll certainly keep it at the front of my mind, and the ever growing list of questions I'll have for him to clear up for me!WelshShooter wrote:mullen7 wrote:Isn't a race to the finish! My radar is scanning for a SH Vepr12, but will have to be a continental one. I can't do with that minimum UK barrel lenght
