I read somewhere about adding a dollop of Brasso into the media... is that a good idea/bad idea?
I Also bought a load of walnut shell sand from a pet supply company... it's very fine... not sure if it will work but it was waaaaay cheaper than the 'branded' tumbling media

Re: Shiny!!
Brasso contains ammonia which degrades brass, whether there is enough in Brasso to do harm I don't know but I choose not to use it just in case, I add a teaspoon of car polish like T-cut but whatever is the cheapest on the shelves mixed with a teaspoon of white spirit before adding to the media to stop balling.

Re: Shiny!!
The fine walnut media (around 20 to 50 grit) is excellent, provided it is used with a suitable polish. I started with a 25 Kg sack from a pet supplier, which was cheap compared to the same product in 'shooting' packaging. Next I bought a palette-load direct from an industrial media supplier, and it was cheaper again.StangGT wrote:I Also bought a load of walnut shell sand from a pet supply company... it's very fine... not sure if it will work but it was waaaaay cheaper than the 'branded' tumbling media
I like Auto-Glym metal polish, diluted 1:1 with white spirit. Watch out for ammonia-based products, like Brasso and regular T-Cut (but not T-Cut 'Metalic', apparently).
