Sordin are a good fit and very comfy....even after a day in the buggers.DW58 wrote:I've been using Sportac for the past year, however I've got fed-up of the speed at which they gobble batteries (4x AAA at a go), they can easily get switched on in transit, and tend to fall apart - the microphone covers come off.
I've just upgraded to a set of MSA Sordin Pro X which are in a different league altogether, and the gel-filled seals are pure luxury.

I've just bitten the bullet and splashed out on the Sordins after a few threads that they've come out as top. I think I discussed them with Froggy as he has a set when we were in CZ too..
Re: Peltor sportac or protac??
I'm going to look into this sordin ones in all
One thing I don't understand ; a 7.62mm is 145 db give or take and the safe db exposure is no more then 85db. If the ear defenders only offer 20db reduction that makes 125db still be exposed to the ears which will give you ear damage !! Am I missing something here ?????

Right then...Sordins.....I have just put the gell kit on mine and yes, its very comfortable, but it got me thinking and on reflection, I may look at Peltors next time round, here's why.
On taking the old sponge inners out, they had stuck to the inner workings...how? By really heavy scaly rust on any steel screw they touched (all of them).
Obviously when you wear these things for days on end, you sweat. Sweat does nasty things to steel, we know that, so why not some sort of barrier there? Its not as though it would make you sweat even more is it?
I am thinking Mylar film or even cling film over the electrics (could use Mylar off a kiddies balloon).
Also, try changing the batts without a spiky thing to get to the second battery.
Allide to the fact that my first set fell apart and were replaced FOC and they dont fold up very well and were actually not that comfortable prior to paying an extra £30 on the gel kit to make them serviceable, I am not sure they were such a great buy after all.
Good, but not great and over priced taking the above into account. Yes, they are supposed to be waterproof...obviously only from the outside

Eh? Ive just taken mine apart - what screws are you referring too? the 4 that hold the circuit board? - mine are black and free from any corrosion and I use mine in all weather?Maggot wrote:Right then...Sordins.....I have just put the gell kit on mine and yes, its very comfortable, but it got me thinking and on reflection, I may look at Peltors next time round, here's why.

Hear Hear - my Sordins are the best "Defs" I've ever owned and I've got through a few sets over the years - bought my first circa 1976.MiLisCer wrote:Eh? Re: Peltor sportac or protac??
its not just sweat, its condensation too. my work bluetooth peltors do it too if i take off the cups and look behind the foam. the side with the batteries in was worse than the other, i reckon that batts get a bit warm, but not hot hot.

Re: Peltor sportac or protac??
The thing is Braddaz there is not much room in them unless you fit the gel. This means that your lugs are in direct hard contact with the foam that is also squashed onto the screwey bits, so the sweat/condensation/jiz/coffee etc wicks to where you need it least.bradaz11 wrote:its not just sweat, its condensation too. my work bluetooth peltors do it too if i take off the cups and look behind the foam. the side with the batteries in was worse than the other, i reckon that batts get a bit warm, but not hot hot.
If its not a specific sordin issue then I stand corrected.
