I used 50gr for fox and 75gr for target in mine. I regret selling it like no other rifle sale.

Hornady's 75gr BTHP is the bullet for you for the targets, much better than any 69gr. None of the 9-twist projectiles will be supersonic much past 600 yards in usable terms.

So are we all saying 55 grn is the main one for hunting ? , and any other higher grain is ok for target and range work ? , can anyone tell me what kills you had using 55 grn and at what max range should this not exceed ?
Thanks peter.

I would use 53gr Vmax if you can find it - best BC light bullet. Failing that the 52 amax works well and can be mail ordered.

The 55 gr does not give you sufficient extra BC and you can drive the 50s quickly.

In terms of range, if you put one of those in Charlie's vitals he won't get up so you are the limiting factor. I would start with 200 yards and see how you find it.

You should never exceed the range at which you are confident of a one round kill.

50gr, 53,55gr they are all good for fox. I never shoot foxes at more than 300-350yds - At this range I am confident of one round kills. On paper I know I can hit a 4" circle (Kill zone) at 600yds - but that is a bit of paper.

Just noticed this on SYSS S/H page

http://www.rimfiremagic.co.uk/second_hand_firearms.html

Remington SPS Tactical shortened to 17" barrel (1 in 9 twist) in Bell & Carlson Light Tactical stock with Maxguard finish, ex demo ... £800

Not a AICS stock but not a bad package,

True but that barrel is too short - velocity loss will be severe. It's bad enough with a 20-inch

I wouldnt exceed the range of a kill , my max range wouldnt exceed the 300 yard mark , all i wanted to know mike is what members have had results with the 55 grn upto the 300 yard mark , as for grouping and kills , has the bullet been placed where he aimed ect , basically on a good day , does the round perform as well as it does in that range using the 55 grn .

Peter,

I've never had a fox complain - the A-max and the Sierra Gamekings both expand violently and as they are "varmint" rounds the fragmentation does what it is supposed too, even at that range.
